Aratellus’ Leviathan Returns to Service Following Scheduled Maintenance
Aratellus is pleased to announce that Leviathan, the world’s most advanced subsea trencher, has successfully completed its scheduled maintenance period at the company’s Blyth facility and is ready for its next deployment.
The 1,600HP Leviathan is a state-of-the-art subsea trenching system with a unique four-track stabilisation design, optimising performance and safety across all terrains, including sand waves. Designed primarily for the installation of export and inter-array cables, Leviathan is equally capable of trenching pipelines, making it one of the most versatile assets in the offshore energy sector.
Over the last four years, Leviathan has delivered projects across four continents, operating from seven different vessels and trenching hundreds of kilometres of cable and pipeline. Recent deployments include offshore wind projects in Taiwan, pipeline trenching in the Gulf of Mexico, and fibre optic cable installation offshore Africa.
Chris Hardie at Aratellus, said: “Leviathan has proven itself time and again as a highly capable, cost-efficient solution for subsea trenching. The successful completion of this maintenance period ensures the system is in peak condition for upcoming projects. It’s a testament to the expertise of our engineering and operations teams, who continue to deliver safe, innovative, and effective solutions for our clients worldwide.
“What makes Leviathan stand out is its ability to eliminate costly pre-sweeping by traversing steep sand waves, while also optimising trenching across a wide range of seabed conditions with adaptable jetting systems. It has shown it can operate effectively in both deep and shallow waters, carry out close trenching around infrastructure with obstacle avoidance and tight-radius capability, and adapt seamlessly to both soft and hard seabeds thanks to its variable buoyancy system. These combined advantages deliver significant cost and performance benefits to our clients.”
